Adult Karate Promotion Schedule

Our Adult Karate students follow the same promotion format and requirements as our Youth Karate program. The only difference is, promotion testing happens only one time per year. At the end of our Fall Session in December, the adult karate students will have the opportunity to test for their next rank. The level of their scores will determine what rank they are able to obtain.

There are 3 sections of scoring that help determine the rank:

1. Physical Test Score

2. Written Test Score

3. Annual Attendance Score

Physical Test Score:

The Physical Test Score is based on the student's performance in the required sections. Each requirement is scored on a pass/fail basis, and the final number of mistakes determines whether or not they pass that section. Students scoring a 90 % or higher (A) will be permitted to continue on with the test. Students scoring an 80% or higher (B) will also be permitted to continue on with the test. A student scoring 79.99% or lower (C) will need to stop their test at that point.

Written Test Score:

The Written Test Score is based on the student's performance on their written test for their required sections.

Annual Attendance Score:

The adult student's ability to earn a rank will also be determined by their attendance throughout the year. A minimum attendance score is required to be able to reach certain levels above their current rank. A smaller attendance score will limit their ability to achieve higher ranks.

            * Formula used for attendance criteria*

Less than 1 point per week: Maximum advancement = 1 rank level

Average 1 point per week: Maximum advancement = 1 belt level

Average 2 + points per week: Maximum advancement = 2 belt levels

The Adult Karate student is not limited to only advance to the next level, but under this system may earn as many as 2 belt levels higher than their current rank. However, it is very important to remember that this is not guaranteed, but earned through the test scores. A combination of passing all 3 test levels is the only way to advance that high. All 3 testing criteria must be passed in order to keep advancing. If one or more of the 3 levels receives a "C", the test stops and that will be the students rank for the next year.
